Absent Voices, Rainbow Stories
August 1, 2024 – August 31, 2024
This August Kamloops Museum and Archives is partnering with the Kamloops Pride Society to proudly present “Absent Voices and Rainbow Stories.”
This program aims to further establish the Kamloops Museum and Archives as an inclusive, welcoming space that amplifies the voices of the Kamloops 2SLGBTQPIA+ community, ensuring that future generations can learn from their experiences.

The mandate of the Kamloops Museum and Archives is to collect, organize, interpret, and provide access to records and artifacts related to Kamloops and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. However, it is essential to address the voices that have historically been marginalized, underrepresented, and underserved in museological practices.
The Kamloops Museum seeks to address these gaps through accountability and transparency, bringing these issues to light as identified by the Kamloops 2SLGBTQPIA+ community. By sharing their histories, stories, and narratives, we aim to fill these gaps.
Acknowledging the limitations of a historic record that excludes marginalized voices is crucial for museum professionals. The 2SLGBTQPIA+ community has often been systematically excluded from the official historical record. This program provides a platform for the Kamloops 2SLGBTQPIA+ community to share their stories and historical moments from their perspectives today.
